Event Description:
For the second installment of the Sense Solar Series 2012 we visit the White Peaks. This part of the Peak District is famous for its rolling limstone scenery and many picturesque dales on this walk you will pass through no fewer than four dales.
Our route starts of at Monsal Head and follows the Monsal Trail into the town of Bakewell. From here we head east and into the stunning grounds and park land of the Chatsworth House estate. As we pass Chatsworth House we journey south along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way until we arrive in the pretty village of Rowsley. As we pass Stanton Moor we will go past the famous Nine Ladies Stone Circle (believed to be nine ladies turned to stone as a penalty for dancing on Sunday) before we head north and into the village of Youlgreave. From here we visit Lathkill Dale a stunning National Nature reserve famous for its wide selection of water fowl along with intriguing old mine workings.
As you climb out of Lathkill Dale you will arrive in Monyash before heading north to the top end of Millers Dale where you join the Monsal Trail right back to the start point.
